The Horrors - Festival Republic Stage
Defying a power cut to close the stage
A band on a seemingly unstoppable surge at the moment, not even a power cut could keep gothic five-piece The Horrors at bay last night at Leeds as they tore through a set made up for tracks from 2009’s ‘Primary Colours’ and this year’s phenomenal ‘Skying.’
Saying little throughout, and bathed in a haunting display of red and blue lights, the group were nothing short of mind blowing, opening up with new album introduction ‘Changing The Rain,’ and beguiling with a mix of krautrock and shoegaze influences melding together to form a monolithic whole.
The power cut came about forty minutes into the set as they played recent single ‘Still Life,’ cruelly stopping them when in full flow. A clearly enraptured crowd though were in no mood to let the blackout sour spirits and sang back the song’s chorus to the band until normal service was thankfully resumed.
With that The Horrors finished with ‘Mirror’s Image’ and the epic ‘Moving Further Away,’ remarking that Leeds was “the best crowd we’ve played to in some time.”
